Otiria-Moerewa Flood Mitigation Spillway and Bridge Grand Opening (Item 3.4)

Kawakawa Deflection Bank update (Item 3.5)

Work was scheduled for 2025-26 but brought forward due to Crown Infrastructure Partners funding

Nature Based Solutions - Upper Kawakawa Catchment Feasibility Update (Item 3.6)

Hui held at Waiomio, Maromaku, Matawaia and Motatau

$300,000 funding from Ministry for the Environment – criteria must be “Nature Based

Wider community at flood risk from road network being flood prone

Staff met with a bus driver to identify primary flooding areas stopping buses

Discussion from the floor about other areas of flooding; staff to meet with whānau to understand critical points

Focus on critical points due to wide-spread flooding

CIP Otiria further works (Item 3.7)

Modelling indicates approximately 8 cubic meters per second (cms) of overland flow

Large 1-meter diameter culvert max flow rate is 0.82 cms

Existing roadside drain overwhelmed, causing surface flooding down Kingi Road towards Otiria Marae

Objective to design and construct a swale to safely deliver 8 cms of flow to Waiharakeke Stream

Staff will work with KiwiRail; may require culverts under rail tracks

Waiomio willow removal mahi (Item 3.8)

Kaitiaki developed a drill and fill method to kill willows standing. Targeted three sections this year

Master Plan: remove willows, replant with natives. Dead willows removed with a digger and mulched or burned

Kaitiaki testing the Awa and monitoring progress
