Review of Action Points from the Last Meeting (Item 3.1)

Presented by: Group Manager – Regulatory Services

The actions from the last meeting were reviewed.

Agreed action points:

·                Draft a letter to MPI to find out when it plans to undertake a more comprehensive review of the National Environmental Standard for Plantation Forestry, noting the council’s concerns about the accuracy of the standards erosion classification with respect to Northland’s soils.  Recommendation from Working Party was that the draft letter be reviewed and approved by council prior to it being also sent to the Minister for the Environment – Group Manager – Regulatory Services to co-ordinate.

 

Preparing for the next Drought 2020 Drought and Improving Water Resilience (Item 3.2)

Presented by: Natural Resources Monitoring Manager and Group Manager – Regulatory Services

Presentation covering ways of improving water resilience for any future droughts.

Agreed action points:

·                Present the “Preparing for the next Drought – 2020 Drought and Improving Water Resilience” presentation (or similar) to TTMAC – Natural Resources Monitoring Manager/Group Manager – Regulatory Services.

Catchment Restoration Contracting Gangs (Item 3.3)

Dung Beetles (Item 3.4)

Presented by: Dr Jenny J Dymock

Presentation covering the benefits of Dung Beetles for the environment.

Agreed action points:

·                Dr Dymock was asked to provide the capital and operation costs of undertaking a Dung Beetle trial in Northland.

·                Dr Dymock be invited to present her Dung Beetle proposal to the Kaipara Moana Remediation entity.
